Nuclear Honey Plays Kings Barcade

Every child dreams of making bank by selling sugary lemonade in their front yard.  Some entice customers with freshly squeezed lemons, others with extra sugar; but for Gray Henderson, he lured in customers with the rhythmic beat of drums.

Fast forward to the present and Henderson has exchanged his drums for a guitar and the lemonade stand for one of the many music venues around the Triangle.  Henderson, along with Reaves Greer, and  Kenan Jernigan, have joined forces to make the southern rock and roots band, Nuclear Honey.

Prior to forming Nuclear Honey in 2011, Greer and Henderson played in two other local bands, Ascella Vega and Sign of the Rhino.  These collaborations started in high school and have all been a part of their musical journey, leading them to their current sound.

Henderson and Greer released Tombstone Sessions as their acoustic debut EP.  The recording was done with Dave Bartholomew in the office of his family's tombstone engraving business, hence the title. They later decided to expand their sound and get plugged in, adding three new band members. With the help of the fundraiser Kickstarter.com, they recorded Nobody Panic, a 7-track album that was released in the summer of 2013.  The album provides the classic sounds of pure rock-n-roll with folk roots.

Come out to Kings Barcade this Saturday to bask in the sweet sounds of these local musicians with support from Dragmatic + GH Goodwin.  Doors open at 9, show starts at 9:30.  Visit Nuclear Honey's profile at Reverbnation and in true stalker form,  follow them on Twitter, and like them on Facebook.

Bronze Radio Return Plays Kings

Who says great live music is only for the weekend?  Kings Barcade is offering a promising start to the week with Bronze Radio Return (BRR) this Tuesday.

Bronze Radio Return is a band of six gentlemen who met at the Hartt School, one of the country's best music schools, located in Hartford, Connecticut.  The band settled together in 2008 and started writing immediately.  Discovering that atmosphere greatly affects their music and songwriting, they have recorded in several different places such as, Maine, Oklahoma, and Virginia.

Bronze Radio Return is American roots music at its best. The band consists of Craig Struble (banjo and harmonica), Rob Griffith (drums), Bob Tanen (bass), Matt Warner (keys), Patrick Fetkowitz (lead guitar) and Chris Henderson (guitar, vocals).   The sextet comes together to create  genuine and  forward-thinking lyrics with sounds that range from soft and reflective to upbeat and foot-stomping. The group is currently promoting their third full album, Up, On, and Over.  To purchase the album, check out Bronze Radio Return's website.

The band's music has been used in numerous TV spots and ads including a Nissan Leaf commercial and a Behr Paint/Home Depot ad.  Their songs have also been licensed by HBO, NBC, MTV, American Idol, and ABC Family.  Even with this commercial success, the band is devoted to performing live shows, which keeps them on the road continuously.

Supporting BRR is an amazing local group, Morning Brigade, from Chapel Hill. This band released their first album, Above Our Heads, in late 2012.  The group has proven to be successful in their short time together, playing Hopscotch, the Eno River Festival, and the Shakori Hills Festival.  This band likes to mix things up and not be tied down to one specific genre.  Depending on the song, there are hints of indie, folk, rock, bluegrass, acoustic, and chamber pop.

The show is at Kings Barcade on Tuesday, February 4 at 8:30.  Tickets are $8 in advance, $10 at the door.  The doors open at 8.
