Kopecky Release New Video Featuring Michael Ian Black

In Kopecky's new video for their latest single "Talk To Me", a cult run by vocalist/guitarist Gabe Simon consumes fellow singer Kelsey Kopecky and her family recruits Michael Ian Black to save her. Co-directed by Teddy Blanks and Alex Karpovsky from HBO's Girls, you can watch + share the cheeky new video courtesy of Funny or Die HERE.

"The story for the video developed when we first heard the lyrics of the chorus, 'Talk to me, tell me all your secrets cause I want to be everything you need,'" explained Karpovsky. "We immediately saw those words as being spoken by a charismatic cult leader to his followers. But the catchy, fun vibe of the song got in the way; we seem to have inadvertently created a very fun cult that gets to carry around cool light sculptures and dance their afternoons away next to a grand piano. Why would anyone want to escape a cult like that?"

"Talk To Me" is from Drug for the Modern Age, the second album from this Nashville-based six piece. The record takes the many shake-ups the band's endured over the past few years and turns them into inspiration for groove-driven, melody-heavy alt-pop that's intensely emotional and strangely exhilarating.

Formerly known as the Kopecky Family Band, the group looks at the effects of life-altering events on this record, such as the sudden loss of a loved one, divorce, and struggles with addiction, along with more joyful happenings like new love and marriage.

"Our goal was to talk about all these very serious things we were dealing with, but in a way that felt nothing like wallowing and more like standing triumphantly, or even dancing our way through it," Simon explained.

Fans can dance alongside the band on their upcoming tour dates, which can be found below.  Sadly, they won't be hitting the great state of North Carolina this time around, but stay tuned for more tour dates.

StreetFest Moved to Raleigh Convention Center

Even the weather can't steal center stage from all the great bluegrass musicians in Raleigh this week for IBMA's World of Bluegrass, but this weekend the Raleigh Convention Center will be the physical manifestation of the proverbial "Big Tent" - it'll house more than 100 bands from around the world playing a variety of styles of bluegrass over the course of the two-day PNC presents Wide Open Bluegrass festival. In addition to yesterday's announcement that the ticketed portion of the weekend will be moved indoors to the Convention Center, organizers confirmed this morning that the main components of the StreetFest will also move indoors, including all of the music stages and the vendors from the Got to be NC, Arts Market, and Shop Local Raleigh sections of the festival. The NC Pork Council's Barbecue Experience Dinners will also be hosted inside the Convention Center.

The Dance Tent will move to Salisbury Street in front of the Convention Center - in addition to a tent over the top, the area will be walled in to help shield dancers, musicians, and audience members from the weather.

"Of course we've been watching the weather closely all week, and IBMA staff and volunteers, City staff and volunteers, artists, vendors, sponsors, and everyone involved in making this event happen has been focused on how to make the event work in a very different environment while still celebrating the music that brought us all together this week. We are particularly glad that IBMA, the City of Raleigh, and the Convention Center teams have been so flexible in helping us to ensure that all scheduled artists will still be able to perform, and we look forward to offering a one-of-a-kind experience for everyone to enjoy safely this weekend," said William Lewis, Executive Director of PineCone and the festival's producer.

The new stage locations are as follows:
  • City Plaza Stage: Ballroom C
  • Hargett St Stage: Ballroom A
  • Youth Stage: Convention Center Room 402
  • Davie St Stage: Convention Center Room 301 (Ground Floor)
  • Martin St Stage: Convention Center Room 302 (Ground Floor)
  • J.A.M. showcase stage: Convention Center Room 304 (Ground Floor)
Performance schedules will remain the same, and schedules will be posted outside the corresponding rooms in the Convention Center.

Shop Local Raleigh vendors will be placed on the Mezzanine level of the Convention Center outside the Ballrooms, and Ballroom B will house the NC Pork Council Barbecue Experience Dinners and serve as a food court.

Got to Be NC Vendors will be placed in the North Halls on the ground level of the Convention Center, and Arts Market vendors will be in the South Halls on the same level.

Martin Guitar will host an acoustic stage in exhibit hall C, where IBMA's expo will be; this section will also welcome in activation areas from festival sponsors Boone, North Carolina; Blue Cross & Blue Shield; Carolina Chevy Dealers; and more; and it will remain free and open to the public.

Additional food vendors will be outside the Convention Center on Salisbury and Cabarrus streets.

As announced yesterday, the Red Hat Amphitheater programming will be moved into the Convention Center Exhibit Halls A and B. The Box Office, Will Call, and VIP check-in will be on the Convention Center's Mezzanine Level (accessed via the doors on the corner of Cabarrus & McDowell, across McDowell St from Red Hat Amphitheater).

Tickets purchased for the shows at the Red Hat Amphitheater will be valid in the Convention Center, and the process for entry will be the same: Bring your paper ticket to the exhibit hall and when you leave, you will get a wristband for re-entry.  In addition, people with reserved seats will still be guaranteed a comparable seat in the section in which their original ticket was reserved.

Members of the public can call 919-645-2665 with any questions about the changes to the event.

Updated information will be made available via wideopenbluegrass.com, on the festival app, via IBMA's and various local social media channels and platforms, and on-site at the Raleigh Convention Center.

Wide Open Bluegrass Fest Rain Update

The ticketed portion of this weekend's Wide Open Bluegrass festival will be moved from the Red Hat Amphitheater into the Raleigh Convention Center in Exhibit Halls A & B. All current Red Hat Amphitheater tickets will be honored. Friday's performances are sold out; tickets are still available for Saturday and can be purchased via Etix.com or at the door at the event.

"We are grateful for our strong partnership with the City of Raleigh. It allows us to move forward with the Wide Open Bluegrass main stage performances as planned," said Paul Schiminger, Executive Director of the International Bluegrass Music Association.

In addition, the local organizing committee, in partnership with the IBMA, has a contingency plan for all free performances to move indoors to the Raleigh Convention Center, along with all vendors and other festival activities, if the current weather forecast holds. Organizers finalized the plans this afternoon and will make a final call tomorrow morning by 10 a.m. whether to implement the plan.

Our primary concern is for all event participants--attendees, performers, vendors, and sponsors--to be safe, and to have a jammin' good time.

Updated information will be made available via wideopenbluegrass.com, on the festival app, and via IBMA's and various local social media channels and platforms.

The final call for StreetFest will be made on Thursday morning, October 1, so stay tuned for updates.

Bluegrass Fest Spotlight: The Railsplitters

Arguably one of the greatest components of the International Bluegrass Music Association choosing North Carolina as the host of their Wide Open Bluegrass Festival, is the opportunity to discover new artists at the turn of every corner in downtown Raleigh. Last year was the second year Raleigh played host to the music event and the reception of the festival was clearly embraced as over 140,000 music fans filled the streets to listen to bluegrass music.

For The Triangle Beat, one band that had us anticipating the return of the festival was The Railsplitters.  Originally from Colorado, The Railsplitters are a bluegrass band that encompass all of the elements of traditional bluegrass music with the modern flare of some of the biggest names in the music industry.  This was apparent at the 2014 Wide Open Bluegrass festival as the Hargett St. Stage became electrified by their performance.  From their hypnotic vocals, to their incredible skills at playing a variety of instruments, The Railsplitters are sure to catch the attention of any music lover exploring the festival.

Most recently, the band has released their sophomore album titled, The Faster it Goes.  As you prepare for the upcoming days of IBMA Wide Open Bluegrass, check out a feature track off that album titled, "Tilt-a-Whirl."  Find out more about the band and purchase The Faster It Goes by checking out their website.

The Wide Open Bluegrass festival will provide two opportunities to catch this amazing act throughout the week.  Be sure to add one of the following sets to your weekly itinerary:

Wednesday, September 30 -
12:00-1:00am @ Tir-Na-Nog

Saturday, October 3 -
9:45-11:00pm @ Hargett St. Stage

For a complete listing of showtimes, bands, and to purchase tickets, visit the IBMA website.
